GALE BOSTON DIES ON FISHING TRIP - Gale Boston, 74, collapsed and died suddenly while preparing to go on a fishing trip while vacationing in Lenora, Ontario, Canada, on Sunday, June 17, 1979, with his wife, Lucy, and Mr. and Mrs. Paul Monical. They left Farina on Friday, arrived in Canada on Saturday and Gale was stricken about 8:30 a.m. Sunday. William Gale Boston was born on August 11, 1904, in Christian County, Illinois, and a son of Purley Grandison and Sedalia Landers-Boston. He married Lucy Hays on April 12, 1925, in Christian County. Mr. and Mrs. Boston and family moved to Farina in 1945 after Gale had started a Chevrolet dealership here. He continued in this business until 1958. He ran for the office of Farina Village Trustee on April 17, 1951, and was not only victorious but also received the most votes. His final term expired this year and he decided against running as his health had begun to fail. He attended his final meeting as a board member on May 7, 1979, having served 28 consecutive years in that capacity. He was appointed as supervisor of LaClede Township on Thursday, March 24, 1950, to fill the vacancy created by the death of Frank Woerner on March 10, 1950. He remained as supervisor for 17 years, being defeated by E. E. Jahraus, write-in candidate, on April 5, 1977. He was also a member of the Brown Christian Church near Omega, served on the Fayette County Fair Board and was a deputy sheriff for several years. Survivors include his wife, Luxy of Farina, son, George F. (Bud) Boston of Brandon, Florida; daughter, Mary Walker of Carbondale; two brothers, Lowell Boston of Mira Loma, California and Merle Boston of Galva; three sisters, Ferne Boston and Gladys Denton, both of Owaneco, and Grace Summers of Lake Panasoffkee, Florida; three grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends. The funeral will be conducted at the Rankin-Stonecipher Funeral Home in Farina on Thursday, June 21, 1979, at 2 p.m., with Rev. Arlie Mulvaney of Pana officiating. The Farina Village Board has issued a proclamation for all businesses to close during the funeral hour from 2 to 3 p.m. in his honor. Burial will be in the Farina Cemetery.
